Well, after this, everyone’s going to know about Wheaton. I’ve seen about three-four others too.
I’ve seen this all over the place: MSN, Yahoo, Time, Huffington Post, Gawker, etc. Even The Daily What included a mention of it. I do feel bad for Ann Curry, though; granted, as a journalist, it was an especially stupid mistake to make, but the rest of her speech was good, and as she says in her apology, she was only trying to make an effort to connect with the Wheaton community. Were it not for the internet, this might have appeared in a couple of newspapers, and that would be that, but instead it’s all over the place and comments on most of these websites are rather cruel toward Ann Curry. Again, she made a stupid mistake, but those of us at the Commencement ceremony were very respectful toward her. I can only imagine her embarrassment at being told of her gaffe, and she must now feel especially terrible since it has been getting so much attention.
